------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Every year, the department organizes various training courses for participatory action research.

Scientific research is increasingly expected to have a social impact. Practice-oriented research for (versus of) practice is therefore popular. Participatory action research (PAR) goes a step further; this is about research with practice and people whose life or work is the subject of study. Co-creating, reflecting, learning and evaluating are inextricably linked here.

Structure and content

In this four-day course, we consider fundamental and practical questions so that you can get started with this research approach. We pay attention to the underlying principles and values, theoretical background, quality criteria and ethics of PAR. Furthermore, plenty of attention is given to all steps in the process of participatory action research, such as participatory methods of data collection, analysis and evaluation. The course consists of lectures and work groups. Many examples illustrate how PAR can be performed in the context of care and welfare, and with different target groups (including children, the elderly, the chronically ill, people with disabilities).

For whom

The course is intended for people who are interested in or are already doing PAR, but who are looking for more theoretical underpinnings. These can be PhD students, researchers from universities, colleges or institutes, but also workers in the health care or social domain.
